This session will cover several topics on appraising and reviewing the kinds of quantitative study designs commonly submitted to JMRS. This will include an overview of common designs, with their strengths and weaknesses; some discussion around different appraisal/reporting guidelines for assessing such studies; common design/analysis/reporting considerations that crop up in submissions; and how to “get help” if you think you need more specialised statistical input for a JMRS review.

Meet the speaker

Associate Professor James Stanley is a biostatistician and researcher at the University of Otago, Wellington, New Zealand. His main research themes include monitoring equity in cancer treatment access and outcomes, and various other projects where he contributes statistical expertise. James has been reviewing for JMRS (and other journals), and serves as the Biostatistics Editor for the journal. He will bring these and other insights to this discussion, including time for Q&A after the formal presentation.
