ASMIRT Job Connect launch

ASMIRT Job Connect

A-SMART way for graduates to find their initial work placement.

NOTE: ASMIRT is now seeking employers wishing to access student’s contact details to begin their interview process, please email Alan Malbon, Diagnostic Imaging Project Officer, for more information on how to participate.

Given the constantly changing landscape regarding employment opportunities for the graduating student membership nationally, it is ASMIRT’s belief that due to the significant number of medical radiation graduates being produced by the universities nationally, graduating students entering the workforce in 2023 should give consideration to all employment opportunities throughout Australia.

To assist the graduating student membership with transitioning from university to the workplace, this year ASMIRT establishes ASMIRT Job Connect, which will potentially allow them to find workplace employment in 2023.

The program establishes a connection with our student members, who will be graduating in this calendar year, and employers nationally who are in the marketplace for base grade staff.

So how does it work?

ASMIRT would require those student members who are completing the fourth year of their under-graduate course or their Supervised Practice program to complete an application form asking for the following information:

  • Name
  • Email Address (Personal email address not a university email address)
  • Radiation Discipline (Imaging / Therapy / Nuclear Medicine)
  • Graduating University (the Medical Radiation Science Degree course pertaining to RMIT University, would be denoted as RMIT University / Supervised Practice Program)
  • The state / territory in which you would primarily wish to be employed in. (For this exercise, the ACT would be part of NSW.)
  • Another state / territory in which you would also consider to be employed in, as an alternative. (Again, for this exercise, the ACT would be part of NSW.)

Applications for 2024 opportunities will open in the early in 2023.

Once the application form has been completed, the data obtained will be open for the various state / territory employers to gain access to, with the three different medical radiation science disciplines noted.

ASMIRT stresses that by completing the application form the graduating student member is consenting to their personal email address being distributed to a number of employers who are interested in employing medical radiation science graduates in a particular State or Territory. ASMIRT also stresses that this program does not guarantee a placement, and is one of a varied number of options graduates should use to find employment.

The benefits for those graduating student members which apply are:

  • The access to all potential employers in each state / territory who are seeking base grade staff.
  • The opportunity to build a personalised state / territory wide contact database, which can be used as a starting point if the graduating student member decides to look for an employment opportunity in the future, even beforethose employers start to advertise.

Benefits for those employers looking for base grade staff:

  • Access to this targeted employee group. This eliminates applications from national and international non-medical radiation professionals which can occur when advertising on open ended employment portals.
  • There is an opportunity to also build a personalised state-wide employee contact database, which can be used in subsequent years to advertise future employment opportunities.

ASMIRT will sending this information to all of our student membership. While it is only applicable to graduating student members, ASMIRT believes it to be an advantage to send it to all the student members to give those who will be eventually entering their final year, an idea of what ASMIRT can offer them in terms of future employment opportunities.

Please contact the ASMIRT Diagnostic Imaging Project Officer, Alan Malbon, via email alan.malbon@asmirt.org to provide and feedback or you have any questions or enquiries about ASMIRT Job Connect.
