The ASMIRT Continuing Professional Development Program

The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program is recognised by ASMIRT members and other stakeholders as a professional development program of significance.

Since its inception in 1999, CPD has helped to benefit practitioners, their patients and the public through a better educated, better trained and more proficient workforce.

The ASMIRT CPD Program is a high quality program which offers flexibility and a wide range of educational activities to meet the diverse interests and needs of the Medical Radiation Sciences (MRS) profession. This Program also meets the CPD standards required for registration as a Medical Radiation practitioner as mandated under the National Law.

Since the introduction of this CPD Program, significant contributions have been made to documenting the knowledge and skills used by Medical Radiation Science practitioners. The development of new skills and the advancement in clinical practice, supported by the self-reflection of workplace experiences, are key to the attainment of full professionalism.

The Program continues to build on the sound educational principles that individuals learn best when the learner is motivated, and when the learning:

  • is highly self-directed;
  • is related to the learner’s identified needs;
  • builds on existing knowledge and experience;
  • encourages active participation;
  • associates learning with current practice; and
  • involves reflection and evaluation of the learning

There are many ways to build CPD hours.

Members can access all their CPD information by logging into the MyPage members portal

CPD Program Requirements

A participant must lodge a minimum of 60 hours over the three year cycle, with a minimum of 10 hours lodged in any one year of the cycle.

It is recommended that the 60 hours need to be lodged from a minimum of six of the nine CPD Activity Categories listed in the CPD Credit Recognition Framework, to ensure that the participant has gained experience from a variety of CPD activities. Download the Credit Recognition Framework

Aphra CPD Exemption

Do you have special circumstances that prevent you from achieving your CPD registration standard through MRPBA/Ahpra? Make sure you apply for a partial exemption from continuing professional development by completing the form available on the Ahpra website. This includes requests for maternity leave, ill health, and carer’s leave.
The MRPBA/Aphra may grant you an exemption from the minimum requirement of 10 hours of CPD for the year. You must still complete 50 hours of CPD to meet the triennium CPD requirements for the CPD registration standard. Only partial exemptions will be considered.
It is strongly advised that this application is submitted in advance where dates of extended leave are known.
Please call Ahpra on 1300 419 495 for more information or to discuss your personal circumstances. Download the Request for partial exemption from continuing professional development form here.
