Online Early-Bird Member Renewals 2015
Posted 29th April 2015

We apologise to our members for the technical problems which have led to the temporary closure of the online renewals payment gateway. The problems appear to be significant and are out of our direct control.

During the early morning of Tuesday 28 April our external online gateway provider suffered serious technical issues which have resulted in the online member renewals process grinding to a halt. The timing for the Institute and its members could not have been more inconvenient as we approach the planned 1 May 2015 closure of the early-bird renewal saving opportunity.

Whilst we have not been informed of the precise nature of the technical problems (nor a detailed prognosis or ETA for a full resolution) we continue to proactively monitor this deplorable situation and have been reassured by the provider that they have escalated the issues to the highest level of priority. It would also appear that a number of other client organisations have been similarly affected by the technical problems.

In full fairness to our members we have opted to extend the early bird renewal saving opportunity to Friday 8 May 5pm AEST. This means that the early bird saving will be available for a further week.

We continue to hope for a timely fix and any significant announcements will be highlighted on the Institute’s homepage in relation to the restoration of online renewal payment services. As soon as services are restored we will announce this on the AIR’s homepage.

Please also be aware that the already busy renewals processing period for staff at the office has been compounded by the technical problems over which we have no direct control. Your patience at this time will be significantly appreciated as staff continue to field significantly increased volumes of email and telephone enquiries, the majority regarding this situation. We would ask that members refer directly to the AIR Homepage for announcements and as a primary source of up to date information rather than requesting an update via telephone or email. This will greatly assist staff in managing this unfortunate situation.

Be part of the Cancer Council Victoria's newly launched Australian Breakthrough Cancer (ABC) Study
Posted 22nd April 2015

The ABC Study is looking for Australian residents aged between 40-74 years, who have never had cancer, other than non-melanoma skin cancer. It will investigate the role that our genes, lifestyle and environment play in the development of cancer and other disease. Researchers are particularly interested in hearing from people who have a family history of cancer.

This study aims to recruit one of the largest ever Australian research groups, with over 50,000 participants needed!

The ABC Study involves an online questionnaire and a saliva sample sent via the post. The questionnaire asks about things such as family history, diet and lifestyle. We hope this information will provide breakthroughs leading to more individualised cancer prevention, screening and treatment.

You can also assist us by spreading the word about this important project. The more people taking part in this study, the more we’ll be able to learn.
