AIR Membership Renewals - 2015/16 - Early Renewal Opportunity
Posted 18th March 2015

AIR Membership Renewals - 2015/16 - Early Renewal Opportunity

The Board of Directors of the AIR has approved fee increases for the various fee-paying AIR membership categories, for the forthcoming membership renewal year: July 2015 to June 2016. For example, the full ordinary membership fee will increase from $452.00 (inc. GST) to $495.00 (inc GST). This increase reflects the impact of rising operating costs across a number of areas during the previous membership years.

To assist members in managing the changes and the fee increase, and to prepare for renewals, we are proposing to open the renewal period early again this year, as previously - as from late March 2015. For those members who choose to renew early (that is up until midnight 1 May 2015), we will offer the opportunity, this year, to pay in full for the forthcoming membership renewal year as an upfront early payment, at a reduced* membership rate (saving approximately half of the membership fee increase). For example, Ordinary Members electing to pay early this year will pay $470.00 (inc. GST) – representing a saving of $25.00 under the new full Ordinary fee.

Furthermore, previously we have indicated possible future changes in relation to the payroll deduction payment method. Whilst these changes remain in the planning phase, please note that for the forthcoming membership renewal year (July 2015 - June 2016) there will be NO CHANGES to the current arrangements.

It should further be noted that whichever method of payment is employed (direct/upfront payment or payroll deduction/incremental payment), professional membership fees paid to the Australian Institute of Radiography are tax deductible.

All members recorded as direct/upfront fee payers with a valid email address recorded with the Institute should expect to receive an email renewal notice (with easy, quick-pay code) in late March 2015.

Existing payroll deduction/incremental fee payers wishing to take advantage of this discount/offer are encouraged to contact the Institute’s membership department (membership@air.asn.au) and their payroll office in order that their outstanding payroll payments can be finalised for the current membership year and their status switched to an upfront payer.

We encourage all members to renew early this year via upfront payment and utilising the Institute’s secure and simple online payment facility (available from late March 2015, via the AIR homepage membership renewal banner).

General Note Regarding Membership Renewal/CPD non-compliance

Please be reminded that those participants in the AIR CPD programme who have yet to lodge sufficient CPD credits to meet CPD targets for the cycle which recently expired on 31 December 2014 have been granted an extension until 31 March 2015

To be deemed eligible to renew their Membership of the AIR and to continue to participate in the CPD programme, it is a requirement that full active members must meet their CPD obligations. Please do not hesitate to contact the CPD team at helpcpd@air.asn.au as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support of the AIR.

David Collier

Chief Executive

*Early renewal saving opportunity – this offer applies to all fee-paying AIR membership categories, excluding the following: Student Members, Journal/Newsletter-Only Subscribers, CPD-Only Non-Members

Radiography Journal Club Launches on Twitter!
Posted 13th March 2015

A Twitter-based radiography journal club is being launched on Monday 16 March at 8pm - the result of the efforts and innovation of radiographers from Australia, Canada and the UK.

Julia Watson (@julaceous), an MRI/CT radiographer in Brisbane and secretary of the AIR's Queensland branch came up with the idea after observing how other specialities use Twitter to further their learning discussions. Her idea prompted the involvement of Adam Westerink (@adamwesterink), also of the QLD branch, Nick Woznitza (@xraynick), an AIR member based in the UK, and some Canadian radiographers active on Twitter.

The journal club (#MedRadJclub) will post one article a month for discussion, with articles chosen on rotation from the three relevant professional journals (Journal of Medical Radiation SciencesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, and Radiography).

The first journal club will launch at 8pm GMT on Monday 16 March so be sure to check out #MedRadJclub.

Read more about this project on the Society of Radiographers website.
