AIR Membership Renewals - July 2014-June 2015
Posted 12th March 2014

AIR Membership Renewals - 2014/15 - Early Renewal Opportunity

The Board of the AIR has approved a fee increase based upon the indexed CPI increase of 2.7% for the various fee-paying membership categories, for the forthcoming membership renewal year: July 2014/ June 2015. For example, the full ordinary membership fee will increase from $440.00 (inc. GST) to $452.00 (inc GST). This increase reflects the impact of the rising costs during the previous membership year.

To assist members in managing the changes and the fee increase and to prepare for renewals we are proposing to open the renewal period early this year (as last year) - as from the middle of March 2014. For those who choose to renew early (that is up until 30 April 2014), we will offer the opportunity, this year, to pay in full for the forthcoming membership renewal year as an upfront payment, at the existing membership rate. For example, Ordinary Members electing to pay early will pay $440.00 (inc. GST) – representing a saving of $12.00.

Furthermore, previously we have indicated possible future changes in relation to the payroll deduction payment method in addition to the possible introduction of a direct debit payment system. Whilst these changes remain in the planning and development phase, please note that for the forthcoming membership renewal year (July 2014 - June 2015) there will be NO CHANGES to the current arrangements.

It should further be noted that whichever method of payment is employed (direct, upfront payment or payroll deduction), professional membership fees paid to the Australian Institute of Radiography are tax deductible.

All members recorded as direct, upfront fee payers with a valid email address recorded with the Institute should expect to receive an email renewal notice (with easy, quick-pay code) by the middle of March 2014.

Existing payroll deduction/incremental fee payers wishing to take advantage of this discount/offer are encouraged to contact the Institute’s membership department (membership@air.asn.au) and their payroll office in order that their outstanding payroll payments can be finalised for the current membership year and their status switched to an upfront payer.

We encourage all members to renew early this year via upfront payment and utilising the Institute’s secure and simple online payment facility (available from the middle of March 2014, via the AIR homepage membership renewal banner).

General Note Regarding Membership Renewal/CPD non-compliance

Please be reminded that those participants in the AIR CPD programme who have yet to lodge sufficient CPD credits to meet CPD targets for the cycle which recently expired on 31 December 2013 have been granted an extension until 31 March 2014

To be deemed eligible to renew their Membership of the AIR and to continue to participate in the CPD programme, it is a requirement that full active members must meet their CPD obligations. Please do not hesitate to contact the CPD team at helpcpd@air.asn.au as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support of the AIR.

Survey: Cranial Ultrasound of the Newborn
Posted 12th March 2014

Cranial Ultrasound of the Newborn: Knowledge, Safety and Practice: A National Survey for Sonographers, Radiologists and Neonatologists

Win a free 16GB, Wi-Fi, Apple iPad Mini - Please Consider Participating!

If you are a sonographer, radiologist or neonatologist and perform or refer for neonatal cranial ultrasound, we invite you to participate in a national survey about training and safe practice of neonatal cranial ultrasound. There is very little knowledge about current protocols and practices and almost no information about the training of those professionals who carry out and/or refer for cranial ultrasound of neonates.

The information you provide will be crucial in identifying how Australian hospitals manage premature and high risk term neonates and will support the development of National guidelines for appropriate training and safe practice of neonatal cranial ultrasound.

To access the survey  please visit http://www.cranial.net.au

This study has been funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia and has received Ethics Approval by Monash University (CF13/759-2013000347). For more information, please contact the Chief Investigator by emailing michal.schneider@monash.edu.au.

2014 RACV Sir Edmund Herring Memorial Scholarship for VIC health professionals
Posted 11th March 2014

Applications for the 2014 RACV Sir Edmund Herring Memorial Scholarship are now open and will close on Friday 9 May 2014.

The scholarship aims to assist health professionals by funding important research projects that help prevent road trauma and improve the quality of care delivered to road trauma victims.

Applicants must be health professionals, Australian residents and work in the state of Victoria. Successful applicant(s) receive up to $54,000 to undertake a project that will lead to improved care in the area of road trauma.

The RACV Sir Edmund Herring Memorial Scholarship has been awarded annually since 1983, in memory of the late Sir Edmund Herring, a former Governor of Victoria and RACV Patron for 34 years.

The recipient of the 2013 scholarship was Dr Gavin Williams, Epworth Hospital. His research will examine whether task-specific strength training is more effective than current physiotherapy practice for improving walking following a traumatic brain injury.

Full application guidelines can be obtained from the RACV website – racv.com.au.
